The Alfa Romeo Brera: In 2002 Italdesign, with Giorgetto Giugiaro amazed critics and audiences at the Geneva Motor Show with a concept car with an exceptional design, the Brera, whose name derives from the famous artists’ district of Milan, based on the chassis of the Maserati 4200 GT and which should have fitted a 90 ° V8 front central engine of over 4000 cm3 and 400 HP of power combined with a sequential gearbox. The bodywork, all in carbon fiber, with spectacular vertically opening doors on a patented joint, is characterized by a design capable of winning 10 awards for style and design, including the 2004 Compasso d’Oro for the following motivation: “The complex combination of volumes that make up the body of a car has rarely been expressed with such clear-cut, essential and harmonious lines: the result is one of the most beautiful and fascinating cars ever made”. The success of this prototype was so high that it prompted the Alfa Romeo management first to transfer the style of the front to the production models (156 and 147) and then to try to bring the Brera itself into production. In 2005, three years after the Geneva Motor Show, the concept was “translated” into a production model and the production Brera made its debut, marketed starting from December 2005.
