Chassis 0402 AM, a Ferrari 375 Mille Miglia, began its journey as a Pinin Farina Spyder owned by renowned Italian filmmaker Roberto Rossellini. Despite Rossellini’s penchant for racing, his wife, Ingrid Bergman, was not keen on his racing endeavors, famously halting his participation in the 1953 Mille Miglia. In 1954, Rossellini acquired two 375 MMs, one for himself and a special Berlinetta for Bergman. However, after just one race at Karlskoga Kanonloppet, where Rossellini failed to finish, he yielded to Bergman’s wishes and retired from racing. The car underwent transformations over the years, including a crash that led to its rebodiment as a Berlinetta in 1955 by Scaglietti. Despite its beauty, Bergman remained wary of the car, likening it to a monster. Eventually, Rossellini sold the car in 1964 to Mario Savona, who later recovered it after it was stolen and crudely repainted green. Savona eventually sold it to Charles Robert, who began a restoration process that spanned over two decades. In 1995, the Ferrari found its way to former Microsoft executive Jon Shirley’s collection, completing a remarkable journey through the hands of various owners and restoration efforts.
