In the spring of 1939 just a few months before the outbreak of war, Pinin Farina presented this sporting 2-seater spider-cabriolet designed by Mario Revelli di Beaumont, built for the Count Salvi del Pero on Alfa Romeo 2900 B chassis, with 8 cylinder supercharged engine, one of the most refined, powerful cars of the prewar era. The casting of the mudguards into the shell, the profile of bonnet and grill reminiscent of that of the Alfetta 158 Grand Prix with fully retracting headlights in the link between front and mudguards and the recessed door handles with push-button opening. are all styling innovations. From the constructional point of view, the novelty consisted of the wholly metal framework that Pinin Farina had begun to adopt in part the year before, to the benefit of that torsional rigidity which was particularly important for openable cars. In many respects, this cabriolet was a synthesis of Pinin Farina’s innovative ideas. Almost 7 years were now to go by before the pieces could be picked up again.
