The Pininfarina Battista: The first EV Hypercar by Pininfarina.
The Pininfarina Battista is an electric sports car manufactured by Automobili Pininfarina. The name Battista is a tribute to the founder of Pininfarina coachworks, Battista Farina. The car was unveiled to the public at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Production, which began on July 13, 2022, is limited to just 150 units assembled at the Cambiano plant and exported equally to North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The Pininfarina Battista styling is the result of collaboration between Automobili Pininfarina’s team of designers, and that of Pininfarina, under the direction of Carlo Bonzanigo. The exterior line of the car reflects the canons of the traditional Pininfarina philosophy: in fact, it espouses the design principle of striking a perfect balance between form and function. The design is inspired by legendary models such as the 1947 Cisitalia 202, the more than 100 Ferraris built in collaboration with Pininfarina, and the 2008 Sintesi concept car. The Pininfarina Battista’s interior, upholstered in leather, is centered around the driver and can be customized according to the customer’s needs. The carbon steering wheel is flanked by two large full touch screens on either side: driving data is on the left and infotainment on the right. Tachometer information, on the other hand, is collected in a small central screen. Two rotors control the transmission, on the right, and driving dynamics, on the left. The car has four electric motors independently connected to the four drive wheels, and with a total output of 1900 hp (1400 kW) and 2300 Nm of torque, it will be the most powerful road-legal car ever designed and built in Italy. The Pininfarina Battista shares 40-50% of the technical components with the Rimac C Two. To keep the thermal part of the electric system at operating temperature, the car has been equipped with a liquid cooling system with five radiators. The capacity of the batteries, supplied by Rimac Automobili, is 120 kWh. The battery pack is T-shaped so that it fits around the center tunnel and seats thus ensuring optimum weight distribution. It can be recharged with high-power and DC columns, allowing the car to achieve a homologated range of 450 kilometers. Figures released by the company speak of a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration of about 2 seconds and 0 to 300 km/h in less than 12 seconds, with a top speed in excess of 350 km/h. The Pininfarina Battista is built on a carbon fiber monocoque chassis with aluminum shock-absorption structures at the front and rear; the body panels are also made of carbon fiber to keep weight down. The braking system, designed for ultra-high performance, was tuned by Brembo and features 390 mm carbon-ceramic discs in the front and 380 mm in the rear with 6-piston calipers, designed for energy recovery. The active tail wing also functions as an aerodynamic brake. The Pininfarina Battista suspension system is electronically adjustable to different setting levels and will be optimized for maximum comfort in all driving conditions. The tires are Pirelli P Zero Corsa mounted on 21-inch rims. Each Pininfarina Battista will be hand-built at the dedicated Pininfarina facility located in Cambiano, Italy. 40 percent of the car’s production was already reserved before the car’s introduction.
