The BMW 2800 GTS Frua built by Pietro Frua was based on the E9 platform but, as you can see in the photos, it looks nothing like the BMW E9.
Vehicle Overview
The BMW 2800 GTS Frua was born after Pietro Frua decided to build a unique BMW based car and consequently also gave it a unique look. It was born as a 2800 CS, but Frua wanted to achieve a slightly more eccentric style. Therefore, while the chassis, engine and transmission are unchanged, the bodywork of this BMW 2800 GTS is totally different from the “production” car. BMW tested the car but it was considered not suitable for production, so Pietro Frua sold the car in Spain in 1971 and was painted in red. Recently BMW Classic discovered the car and did a proper restoration from 2017 to 2019. The BMW 2800 GTS Frua was exhibited at the 2021 Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza.
