The Daewoo Kalos was born as the heir of the Lanos and was approved by the Daewoo top management in 2000. The first design phases of the frame components take place at the Worthing Technical Center in England where most of the mechanics are developed. Subsequently, the contributions of the Bupyong Research and Development Center in South Korea and the elaboration of the style by Giorgetto Giugiaro’s Italdesign will be added: the Kalos is conceived as a car that can suit a very wide audience and wealthy, in fact Giugiaro himself will propose a traditional but innovative line that will inaugurate the new family feeling of the Korean house. Initially, the concept car called Daewoo Kalos Dream was exhibited at the Paris Motor Show in 2000 and after a brief pause in the development of the project in 2001, following the serious financial crisis that hit the parent company, the projects resumed with the exhibition at the Frankfurt Motor Show of a second concept car derived from the Kalos Dream. At the same time as the exhibition of the second version, the experimentation of the 119 prototypes tested all over the world also began, to which were added 31 cars used for crash tests and for checking safety and 39 pre-production cars used for checking the overall product quality. Globally, the Kalos prototypes have covered over 2.2 million kilometers.
