The Ferrari FF Italdesign stands as a fascinating chapter in the history of Ferrari’s design evolution. Unveiled in 2011, the Ferrari FF was celebrated as Maranello’s first all-wheel-drive model and a four-seater that introduced several groundbreaking features. The car’s design, primarily executed by Pininfarina, marked a departure from traditional Ferrari aesthetics with its innovative approach. However, alongside the Pininfarina-designed FF, Italdesign, led by Giorgetto Giugiaro, developed an alternative design proposal that never made it to production. This Italdesign prototype featured a more aggressively sculpted body with sharper lines and a distinctive visual edge compared to the final production model. Giugiaro’s design pushed the boundaries of Ferrari’s classic styling, embracing a bold and modern interpretation that diverged significantly from the softer curves of the Pininfarina version. Despite the forward-thinking nature of the Italdesign proposal, Ferrari ultimately chose to proceed with Pininfarina’s design for the FF. The Italdesign prototype was not adopted, and the car, stripped of Ferrari’s Cavallino logos, found its way into the hands of a private collector.
