Vehicle Overview
The Italdesign Orbit represents a culmination of Italdesign‘s innovative research into vehicle design, drawing on insights from previous projects such as the New York Taxi (1975), Megagamma (1978), Capsula (1982 and Together (1984). This concept car, developed in the mid-1980s, was aimed at creating a practical and comfortable middle-class car with a total length of around 4 meters, comparable in size to contemporary models like the Golf Synchro. The Orbit stands out for its increased internal height, extended by 15 cm compared to typical models of the time. This enhancement provides passengers with a level of comfort that rivals the spaciousness found in three-box sedans, making it a compelling choice for those seeking a blend of practicality and luxury in a compact vehicle. The design research for the Orbit also intersects with Italdesign’s work on the Machimoto. Both projects share a common design language, particularly evident in their front-end styling.
