The new generation of Quattroporte was designed by Pininfarina and developed under the close observation of Ferrari following a merger between the latter and Maserati thanks to a reorganization desired by the top management of the Fiat group (owner of the two brands). The fourth series had a moderate success in sales but failed to revive the image of the house of the trident, clouded by the production of cars derived from the Biturbo series that have never been praised by the public for their technical content; with the new generation it was necessary to make the brand competitive and increase sales on the main markets such as the United States and the Middle East. One of the strategic features for the success of the model was the return to the luxury and elegance of the past that made the Quattroporte model exclusive, without neglecting performance and sportiness. It was necessary to create a real touring car that was pleasant to drive but comfortable for five passengers.
