The Maserati 3200 GT is a result of a “4 hand” collaboration: While Italdesign Giugiaro designed the exterior line, the dashboard and the interiors were designed by the Lancia Style Center under the direction of Fumia, who in any case, together with Maserati, was already part of the Fiat group. The engine, placed at the front, is a V8 3200 cm³, supercharged with 2 IHI ​​turbines, with 368 HP delivered at 6250 rpm derived from that already used on the Quattroporte (but not on the Shamal), and allows the 3200 GT to reach a speed maximum of 285 km / h, and to sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in 5 seconds flat. Also due to the particular design of the “boomerang-shaped” LED taillights (one of the first applications in the world on production cars) that contradicted the US directives on night visibility, the 3200 GT was replaced in 2002 by the Coupé which allowed Maserati to return to the US market. 4,795 units of the 3200 GT were produced, of which 2,689 with manual gearbox and 2,106 with automatic gearbox. From 2002 the car was no longer built with Maserati 3200 cm³ twin-turbo engines, but equipped with naturally aspirated engines, derived from the existing Ferrari production, with a displacement of 4200 cm³, 390 hp and 451 Nm of torque at 4500 rpm, while the Supercharged Maserati offered a power of 368 hp and a torque of 490 Nm (50 kg / m) at 4500 rpm. The latter value is still today of absolute respect for an engine of this displacement.
